I'm having a problem with the installation configuration. When I try to install SQL Server, I get an error when it tries to set up the master database. The error is "The SQL Server Installation could not be successfully completed. A service control manager error occurred #SCM3-1057" Is the user configuration not set up correctly, or am I choosing wrong options in the installation set up? I'm really lost here, and would appreciate any suggestions.

I'm hitting something similar. Trying to install BackOffice to get NT Server and SQL Server set up. Since I've not found a BackOffice forum, this is probably as close as I can get.<br>

On the fifth attempt, the BackOffice install finally installed NT Server 4.0. But then it tried to install IE 4.01 (was not given a choice to install or not) and crashed when the system was rebooted. Since then, I cannot seem to get to the SQL Server part to continue the install. Any ideas?<br>

BTW, I'm doing this from the MSDN Enterprise edition, so no hardcopy manuals available, and while the online documentation is probably pretty good, the problem is finding the right piece of information. Oh, yeah, when it gets to that point, SQL Server will be installed on the E: partition of a 6G HD, with NT on the C: partition. C: is 16-bit FAT (dual-boot NT/95-98), but E: is NTFS.<br>
