Dear friends,

I was trying to install Linux 6.2 on my Hard Disk, which already has Win95 and Windows 2000 Server. I cleared the third partition of my Hard Disk for the installation. When I tried the installation from the Linux boot CD, it is saying partition table corrupt. Whereas I found the partition table in order when I checked the drive by NDD on Windows 95 platform. I ran the fdisk and deleted the third partition (Logical Drive on extended Dos Partition) and re-created it. I tried the installation once more, but with same results.

I would also want to know the best possible way to install multiple operating systems on a computer - Linux on 1st partition, Win95 on 2nd partition and Win2000 Server on 3rd partition or some other combinations.

Please help.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Delete the 3rd partition you have created, you need to use Linux's fdisk to create the Linux partition/s in the free space you will have.

Leave the others as is, install your bootloader (lilo) on hda1 (first partition). IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries
IBM Certified Specialist - AIX 5 pSeries System Administration

During install, it will ask if you want to use lilo and where do you want to put it. You want it on the MBR. You will be shown the 3 systems and asked which one you want to install by default. Each time you reboot after that it will display a screen at boot and prompt you for which one to load. If you don't do anything for 15 seconds the default will be laoded.

I would suggest u to go for redhat linux 7.2 instead of 6.2, which u will enjoy but anyway its upto u. Incase of multiple OS i would suggest u to
- install first win2000 using only the first 2 GB of ur hard disk leave the remaining space as UNFORMATTED
- then u intall Linux (prefered 7.2) with how much ever space u want,
- update lilo
- boot ur system opt for windows, check out the space remaining, if u r happy with this two OS then format the remaining space and assing a drive letter to it.
- incase u want another OS, install it on the reaming space.
- update lilo.
and there u r with 2 OS on ur system.
