Installation Problem / RH 8.0

I'm new to Linux. During installation of RH 8.0 onto a Toshiba Satellite 4100XDVD.

The procedure starts out fine...but, it freezes during the installation of a particular package - libgnomecanvas (library of graphics). When I CTL-ALT-F3'd, the message is: IOError 5 occured copying libart_lgpl-2.3.10-1.i386.rpm: Input/output error

Can anyone help me?

It may be possible that the install CD is damaged.

If you boot from the first disk, it gives you the option of performing checksum tests on all the discs. You might try running that against the offending disk.
