I am using windows "HyperTerminal" as serial terminal emulation program.

1. I was trying to install AIX5L on B50 and P270's as I could find no operating system installed
on them because the rootvg was not even accessed from the maintenance mode.

The error message was:

No volume groups were found on any configured disks.
Exiting to shell.
# exit

2.when I tried to installs AIX 5L during the course of installation it prompted for the following
missing fileset.

The error message was:

Missing Filesets
----------------
The following filesets could not be found on the installation media.
If you feel these filesets really are on the media, check for typographical
errors in the name specified or, if installing from directory, check for
discrepancies between the Table of Contents file (.toc) and the images that
reside in the directory.

3. While rebooting after intallation the following errors are displayed on the terminal.

statd -a can't get ip configuration
: A system call received a parameter that is not valid.
statd -a can't get ip configuration

statd -a can't get ip configuration

0513-059 The rpc.lockd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 6982.
Completed NFS services.

4.Inspite of the failure prompt.

we get the console prompt as below.

AIX Version 5
(C) Copyrights by IBM and by others 1982, 2000.
Console login: 0513-059 The ctrmc Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 9
804.

but when i type in "root"

I am presented with the login prompt again and this repeatedly happens.

Any Help on this would be higly appreciated

Thanks a million times in advance

In answer to your questions:

1) You are right, it cannot find an OS. It probably is there but it cannot varyon the rootvg.

2) During installation it is finding hardware and doesn't have drivers on the CD to complete the installation and configuration of those devices. However, this could be done after installation to bring everything to a correct state.

3) The statd daemon interacts with the lockd daemon to provide crash and recovery functions for the locking services on NFS. Obviously NFS is being read in the inittab and the IP address cannot be translated, maybe because the ethernet adapter on the system isn't configured(?).

statd queries the /etc/sm, /etc/sm.bak, and /etc/state files when restarted and re-establish the connection prior to termination.

4) The login could be set to false or their could be an * in the password field.

If you cannot get into maintenance mode, then you have no alternative except to reinstall.

Thanx AIXSPadmin

1.even I do the new and overwrite installation several number of times.Still we are getting the same problem.

2.Please go through my problem once more and suggest.

3.The question is that after installation the installation assistance screen should come.
I am not getting that.

4.Is this issue related to tty.Atleast the login issue.

5.The AIX media has some problems.Suspect the .toc file which is there in the media.I have checked those missing filesets are'nt there in all the five media supplied to us.

6.since it is a fresh installation ,I dont feel that
the error because of sm.bak files are there. This error is displayed when the system first reboots after the installation.

AIXSPadmin expertise would really help me out..on this.

Thx in advance.
