I have just moved a Nortstar switch along with the star talk voicemail.

The Startalk module has 2 ports and in moving the equipment, the wires came off the 66 blocks. Which ports do the 4 wires need cross connected to? I appreciate all advice. Thank you

Sounds like you might have an 8x24 KSU but put the vioce mail on the last 2 ports of the block VG/GV for the first port of mail and VBr/BrV for the second mail port.

Also look at names in admin to see if they named eg. ext 244= V Mail and if so then look for 244 in maintenance to see what port it was on.

TelephoneGeek If you have a 2-port voice mail... correct me if I'm wrong, but this only use one pair to connect to the KSU..... (since there are 2 ports by wire pairs)...

If your voice mail is a 4-port type (with the optionnal add-on), then you need 2 pairs. One by RJ11 connector...

Common trap we fall into when learning....

Or you can look at an ext. that was setup with a VM box, to see what ext it was setup to "Call Fwd No Ans", then go to Maint. and check what port that ext is on and that will tell you what pairs your goning to cross connect to. It would help us to know what KSU you have 8X24,CICS,MICS?

Thanks so much for the input

Background--I am primarily a wire person, not very experienced with phone switches/voicemail . I got an urgent call that a company was being evicted and had 30 minutes to disassemble there switch/voicemail, dsl gear etc.

The KSU is a Nortel Meridien. There were 8 C.0. lines at old location and 12 hand sets. I am assuming it is a 8x24 or 8x16 model.

I prewired the new location today, and cross connected the handsets and borrowed a live circuit from a neighbor suite to ensure that I had the right x connect, and I did (was able to dial out on line 1) tommorow Bell comes to install the 7 circuits ordered.

Voicemail is a star talk system. Inside the door were 2 rj 11 plugs, one marked 2 and the other 4. The technician who installed this before, had a rj 11 plug installed in both sockets, so I am assuming it was hard wired with 2/4 being used. I hope this helps, and I have no documentation from the owner of the switch. Fortunately I do have a copy of StarTalk setup and operation manual. If this helps any, I noticed the date manufactured was 1999.

Press feature * 0 at any phone and tell us if its 2 digit or 3 digit ext number, also an 8x24 will say it is at the top of the unit and does not have any line cards.

Also press feature ** 266344 and pswrd 266344 and tell us if it says Terminals and Sets or Configuration. ~Will Nortel soon be NoTel??~
