Installation of SQL 2008 on Windows 7

Hi -

Did a search and didn't find any similar posts.

Attempting to install SQL 2008 on Windows 7 and during install steps, fails the 'Restart computer' step. I presume that this is an auto-restart, and the system has always worked fine before. As a result of this error, can't install. This is a new install - not an upgrade. ??

Have you restarted the computer and tried to run the installer again?

Hi Denny. Yes, I have tried restarting the computer and that doesn't help. I have tried every combination of running the installer with no success. That is the only error that occurs. I have since installed SQL Server 2005 Express, and that version works just fine. No installation errors. I would like to see the differences between the 2005 and 2008 versions.

Did you run the install using the "Run As Administrator" option ?

U080570 - sure did! Took me a couple of attempts before I tried that - no difference. Microsoft Sales called me, and I mentioned that I couldn't get 2008 installed. The guy I talked with said he would have a technical guru call, but I haven't heard anything yet.
