1. Can above operating system be installed on Pentium 3 or Pentiume 4 ( Intel Processor - mmx ?

2. Can we install above on an IDE ( UDMA ) Hard Disk ? What are the steps to do ? Is there a particular driver for it ?

3. Where can we obtain the latest patches / supplements of sco Unix 3.2.4.2 ?

4. I have got the Sco Unix Dev. System as image file on the hard disk of the unix server. Can we install them without the going through the use of dd if=/XXXXXXXXX ?

5. I have got a serial printer ( 25DB pin ) to connect to the Unix server. The total length is 360 Meters. What kind of repeater ( booster ) should i use and the pin settings ?

Thanks so much.

First- you really should NOT be using this OS. Upgrade to OSR5.

It's not going to work on a Pentium 4. You may get it to work on a P III but that depends on the rest of the machine- UDMA may have to be shutoff, many modern SCSI controllers won't work, etc. It's not impossible, but there are pitfalls everywhere with modern hardware and ancient OSes.

You get supplements etc from ftp://stage.caldera.com

3.2v4.2 custom only supports installs from disks, tapes and CD's, not from image files.

The ability to run a serial printer 1,000 feet away may very well require a booster (and there's nothing special about that) but the pinouts do depend on the printer. See and

In regards to #5, use line drivers. These are current loop devices. I've had success with the ones from Black Box if they are still available.

Although most of my customers are still on 3.2.4.2 I would strongly urge you to follow Tony's advice regarding items 1 to 4. Ed Fair
