I have installed rsync on a AIX machine.
I used the default /usr/local for installation directory.
A directory called rsync-2.6.8 was created.

Do I have to move some files like rsyncd.conf and some other files to /etc or do I just point to /usr/local/rsync-2.6.8 for the required files?

What did you download?

Binary / Source / RPM?

try cd'ing into the rsync directory and look for a readme

I downloaded the source rsync.2.6.8.tar

I followed the steps in the Install file, but it does not seem to have been properly installed.

I installed the rpm from the AIX Linux toolbox.
It worked as is (although I use with with ssh)
