Installation of Oracle 8i for Solaris x86

I read the installation manual that comes together with the Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition. It asked me NOT to run the install program as root. How, in that case, am I supposed to install Oracle into my computer? I tried to create a new user to run the installation program but it reported that I do not have permission to change this and do that. Is there some errors with the documentation or did I follow wrongly? Can anybody please help me?
