I am hoping to get some realistic feedback regarding a first time installation of a BCM 50 (basic/standard install). I have well over 15 years experience installing Nortel products but haven't ventured into the BCM line of products yet. Basically I am a telephone guy with little computer experience. Before I consider forking over the cash to purchase a BCM 50 I want to find out how difficult the installation process will be....I don't want to get in over my head, however, I don't want to be left in the dust either. VOIP is really picking up momentum and I do have customers inquiring about the product. With lots of telephone experience but limited computer experience how difficult on a scale of 1-10 will I likely find the process? Any feedback is appreciated.

Well BCM 50 supports Telephony Programming. But I have a few guys that i work with that are good with Norstar and are just starting to get into BCM and seem to be taking well to it. I myself was a Norstar guy but was still young when i started BCM. Overall i would say the hardest thing is getting to know the Element Manager interface but once you know your way around its pretty easy. I would say difficulty will be about a 5 to start but give it a few days and it will like a 2

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

If you can program a norstar you can program a bcm. You can program from a telephone with the exact same interface as a norstar. So you can get phones to ring, label phones, etc.. The difficult part will be when, or if, they need any IP funtionality. You will need to understand IP before you will be able to do anything with that. Its not terribly hard though.
