There is an alert regarding the problem of having to put in a second CD during installation. Oracle's solutions involve copying both CDs to a hard disk and installing from there and another equally unhelpful solution.
When you are about 80% finished with the installation, Oracle gives you a message to insert the second CD. Of course, you will have to get out of the mount point to eject the first CD, so either run runInstaller in the background (use the &) or from / with the full path to the command on the CD.
Once you get the first CD unmounted and the second one mounted, you may get a message from Oracle saying it can't find the CD. There is supposed to be a place in the message box where you can put in the path, but the fonts on my desktop made it impossible for me to see where to do that.
Here's how I got around it:
unmount the first cd
kill vold
manually mount the cd with the command: mount /dev/dsk/c0t6d0s0 /cdrom/oracle8i
(I had to get the command from a very kind Tektips person because I couldn't remember it.) The device name may be different for your system. Also, if the mount point /cdrom/oracle8i doesn't work, try /cdrom/oracle8i#1.
Don't forget to restart vold after you are finished with the /etc/rc2.d/S92volmgt start command.
Hi....I believe the easiest suggestion around the 2nd cd problem
is to type the full pathname to runInstaller program rather than
changing to the directory on the cd and running runInstaller.
Worked for me the 2nd time after I couldn't umount the cd.
