Hi all,
I am trying to install Win7 for my friend.
Purchased brand new HD Western Digital 1TB -- > formatted -- went to install.
Installation itself doesn't yield any errors or problems.
But when I try to run I am receiving first Error message "Windows setup didn't complete correctly..." I click ok and then either black screen or screen that says "Starting services" but in both cases its just stays like that forever. I tried format... install/re-install... multiple times to no avail

Please make some suggestions

Tell us what computer or motherboard please - all details brand/model.
1. Update BIOS on motherboard
2. Test memory
3. Test hard drive (sounds dumb, but could be a problem)
4. Do you have a different Win7 DVD to try? You can download one.

Is that an Advanced Format drive?? Likely it is.

This article says you need Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 7 with a specific patch.

Requirements for Advanced Format drive support (physical sector size 4KB / logical sector size 512 bytes)
Windows 7 with MS KB 982018
Windows 7 SP1

Why are you formatting the drive as a separate step from the install? Delete all partitions, and just let windows 7 choose to setup the drive, it will make 2 partitions, and format them as it installs. The 1st partition is only 100MB it is for recovery, leave it alone. Also, it may be that you need a driver for the hard drive controller, how is it configured in BIOS/UEFI? it should be set to AHCI. And may need a driver disk, if it is say a chip from Marvell, or something. You should use the ports that are part of the native chipset, if it has more than one, using the secondary controller, is advanced setup stuff. Like Goombawaho says, need more info.....

thanks for your attention guys
to rclarke250:
i did let win 7 format for me

i will try your suggestions on dealing with BIOS soon.

Here is the info on my friends hardware, so if you any other suggestions -- very welcome

Computer:
HP Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 2.4 Ghz, 3072 Mb memory
Hard Drive:
Western Digital Sata, 1TB, Model: WDBAAY0010HNC-NRSN

thanks for all your suggestions!

The hard drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic software that is bootable and that will thoroughly check the condition of your hard drive.

What system board, or make and model of computer, I can see you said an HP, but nothing else. Are you using an OEM disk? or Original Windows disk to do the install?

HP Pavilion Media Center m8375f PC HP
INTEL Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 3072 Mb
Prod#: KE571AA#A2l
Model: WDBAAY0010HNC-NRSN

Trying to install ORIGINAL Win7

See if there is a way to enable AHCI in BIOS, or if not, switch the HDD mode to IDE mode, over AUTO. I can't find the BIOS guide, to know what terminology they used on this computer. Then Try the install again. Also from the Prod# given, I find no support on HP website for windows 7. Not saying it won't work, just saying that HP never made drivers for that OS for this product, generally though the OEM drivers should work.

Indeed, if the manufacturer doesn't list the O.S. you're trying to install, there's always a question as to whether it will work. But then again, a new operating system with older hardware is a better recipe than new hardware with older O.S.

Great thanks guys!
I will try all of your suggestions over the weekend
Will post back results

All I had to do is change SATA1 mode to AHCI.
And then installation as usual!

Thank you Thank you Thank you
