I had to re-install exchange 2000. Rebuilt the Windows 2000 Server, it is a separate server in the domain, Brand new partition.

When I install Exchange 2000 it errors out at the same point each time, when doing work at the end of the Messaging and Collabaration section it has issues with the following error.

Any help appreciated been down over a week.

Setup failed while Creating Active Directory objects for Microsoft
Exchange
Server-Level Objects (error 0x80072030: There is no such object on the
server.) .

Additional information:
There is no such object on the server.

From the command line.

don't forget to change the Windows 2000 LDAP port to look on port 390 before you install Exchange too.

Hi!

What do you mean by reinstall?
The old Exchange server died and you are trying to restore it on a new hardware using the same name?

I am curious about the change of the windows LDAP port which Zelandakh recommends. As this is a member server (not a DC/GC) I don't have an idea why would this be necessary???

Here is an MS article which might give you some ideas:

Thanks did the forestprep and domain prep and it let me install, as far as what I mean, the entire server crashed, no backup on it so I had to do a fresh install of the server and the exchange server.

Thanks for the help, I also am interested in the LDAP port and how I would change it if necessary.

Are you performing a fresh installation or an upgrade from Exchange 5.5?
On which server did you run forestprep and domainprep and can you post the log files for these operations?

apols, was speed reading the thread and saw server and domain on the top line as DC jumped into my head.

As it isn't a DC you don't need to do it but you were getting LDAP errors. You get those when you leave LDAP on 389 prior to an Exchange 2000 install.

Ah well, win some, lose some.

Thanks Zelandakh how would I change the port number for LDAP, I was installing active directory on the server and having those issues, which I never did before, it was a fresh 2000 advanced server install and exchange 2000 server after the service packs for advanced were installed.

Netometer is was a fresh insall not an upgrade.
