Installation error

Trying to install Sybase standalone 6.x on a Windows XP machine and when i run the setup.exe file I get the error:

16 bit subsystem. Something about the autoexec.nt file is not supported on this system, blah, blah.

This is an NTFS volume. Sybase was installed before but i uninstalled it and tried reinstalling. It's the reinstall that's messing up.
