I'm still trying to get this Netware 4 install going and having a heck of a time. For some reason, the Network driver does not want to load. I have the CD that came with the card, and I've tried every single driver on the CD, tried each one AFTER wiping the drive and re-starting setup, and it still will not load the driver. It won't let me continue on with the setup and opt to go back to that later. I went ahead and wiped the drive again, removed the network card so I could bypass that part of the setup for now. Still detects network adapters and prompts me for drivers. I'm probly not giving the right information, or not enough info, but I'd appreciate anyone's input on this. Thanks.

What hardware are you using with which type of network card? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

You're like the only person that responds in this forum hehe. I had to put that server aside that you were helping me with like 3 months ago, and now I'm back to it. It's a Dell PowerEdge 1300, but I don't know what exactly you need to know "hardware" wise. The card is a Dual Port Intel Pro/100+. I can't find specific drivers on their site because it is OEM hardware, and they tell you to refer to Dell. Dell doesn't have anything on their site for it, so all I have is the CD that came with it, and that's getting me nowhere. =)

I would load the standard E100B drivers that come on the Setup Disk. Once you get those to load then you can go back and update them to the new drivers once you have SP9 installed. That is what I do with all my Dell servers that are running the standard Intel Cards. Of course this is if you're sure the cards are working and setup correctly.

Well this server's been laying around, it's an extra, so I don't know if the network card is working 100%. Thing is when I load the E100B drivers, it tries loading them, then fails, shoots me to the console with 15 error message lines about unable to load such and such. I seriously don't know what else to try. Secondly, why is it finding ethernet adapters if I remove the card completely?

Ted

Okay that's a strange one.....Did you try to reset the BIOS? I know on the Optiplex systems if you turn on the...

NumLock + Caps Lock+Scroll Lock then press Shift F6 it would reset the BIOS. I'm not sure if thats the same on the 1300's or not. I would try to see if there's a reset in the BIOS to force the PNPBios to rescan the bus for cards. Sounds like there is a card that the PNPBios still sees and is trying to load.

Does this particular Dell Server have an Express Service Code or Service Tag # on it? If so, you can use either of these to get the correct drivers from the Dell Website.

I, too, have run into this same problem! The only LAN driver I was EVER able to get to work came off of the Dell Server Assistant CDROM.

Find any Dell Server Assistant CDROM for the 1300. On this CDROM, there is an option to create diskettes. Thats what you want... The diskettes for the Intel Adapter.

If all else fails... you can always throw in a 3COM NIC and disble the onboard NIC. ;)

Good Luck.

I have the service tag. None of the stuff on their site has worked. I have made diskettes from them for Intel drivers. It is NOT onboard. I can almost guarantee this card's working, it has nothing to do with the card. I'm having a problem with the installation part, I'm stuck, and frustrated.

Ted

I realize that... I went through the same thing. For some reason, NetWare doesn't like these other drivers. I tried so many different dated versions of that DARN driver, I almost through the Server out of my 3rd Story office window.

The only Intel Driver I was able to get to work came off the original Dell Server Assistant CDROM, not one that was recently downloaded from the Dell Website.

If you can't find that, you may consider replacing the NIC with a different one.

Good Luck.

I keep playing with it. I guess I'll post the messages it's giving me from console when I try and load this driver, and maybe then someone might have an idea.

SERVER-4.11-1586: Loader cannot find public symbol: MSMNESLDeRegisterProducter
SERVER-4.11-1586: Loader cannot find public symbol: MSMNESLProduceEvent
SERVER-4.11-1586: Loader cannot find public symbol: MSMNESLRegisterProducter
SERVER-4.11-1586: Loader cannot find public symbol: MSMNESLDeRegisterConsumer
SERVER-4.11-1586: Loader cannot find public symbol: MSMNESLRegisterConsumer
SERVER-4.11-1586: Loader cannot find public symbol: MSMHardwareFailure

SERVER-4.11-1586: Load file referenced undefined public variable. Module E100B.lan NOT loaded.

So that's what it shows me in console.

Also, when it prompts me for Ethernet Parameters, what the heck do I put in for slot number? It's the only slot not filled in, and I've tried any number they say is valid, but not sure if this is affecting the loading of the driver.

Ted

If it will help, I can make you a make you a copy of the files that I have used on my 1300's to make them work. I'll zip and email the files to you, IF you would like them.

The files came off of the Dell Server Assistant CDROM that I referred to before.

let me know.

I would appreciate that actually. Email me at tteknos@ihccorp.com. Also, if anyone has info on resetting the bios on Poweredge 1300 Servers let me know, I can't seem to locate any. Sobak had a good idea about that, since even with the card removed it's finding 2 Lan adapters, when no other cards are plugged into the system. Thanks again.

Ted

Have you tried to flash the BIOS? I noticed that the 1300 has BIOS Version A11 out, I know if you flash the bios it will force a rescan of the BUS....

The information on Resetting the bios is here....

Try either one, I'm sure it will drop the Network Cards from the BUS. Make sure you remove the network cards then reset the bios. This is one thing I hate about the older Dells. The new rack mounts don't do this which speeds things up a little....

Actually was just reading up on flashing the bios. Thanks for the info. I just like to think of flashing the bios as a last resort.

Ted

I use to think that way to but the last few problems that I've had flashing the BIOS actually helped resolve the problems that I was having. Although I still have reservations, I've formed a new opinions on flashing. david e

God I hate this server. After resetting the bios (not flashing it) I have no video. This thing's weird, cuse certain times i'll get no video. Like if I yank the network card, and put it back in the same slot, I get no video. If I put it in a new slot, it gets video. If I remove it again, won't work in either of the previous 2 slots. I hate this server.

Ted

Ok got video now. Resetting the bios did not fix anything. I know I'm becoming a bother for you guys, but seriously, could someone explain why the heck it is finding a Lan adapter WHEN THERE IS NO FREAKING LAN ADAPTER PRESENT!

Ted

OH...that's it!

I'm not an idiot bro hehe. No onboard adapter. I'm fairly computer savvy, and I've never before had a problem with networking or anything technical like this. It's the only problem I really haven't been able to diagnose, so excuse me if I sound testy or frustrated =)

Ted

Did you flash the BIOS? Have you run the RCU (resource configuration utility)? I found on one of my 1300's a while back a somewhat similar problem with a scsi card. Ran the RCU and it reset the findings of the bios. It has a similar version number, A00. I would try that before you flash but if it doesn't take go ahead and flash. The bios A11 has been out for a while and I have flashed 3 of my 8 1300's with no problems.

Cheers (and good luck, most everyone here has had an episode similar to yours that was really a pain),

Mark ;-)
