install windows xp on a new hard drive i just brought

hi am trying to build a new computer from scrtch but am havinf problems installing windows xp on the new hard drive please if anyone can help me please help that would ne nice and oh yeah please give me tips on hooking up the jumpers too i was doing computer tech for 5yrs but i become slugish when i stop so i guess am start all over again.

make sure your HD is set to master (what brand HD do ou have btw) then start the cpu and hold delete to call bios setup...make sure your motherboard is reading your HD...if yes then your are almost there...make sure you have a bootable cdrom drive installed and that the bios is reading that too...then put the winxp install cd in your rom drive and restart...then just follow the directions that Bill sets for you....

As long as the BIOS is set to boot from the CD...at least look for it somewhere in the sequence.

ya make sure you have your cd rom to boot ahead of your hd....this took me a while to figure out when i built my cpu
