Hi All,
I just tried to install VFP9 on Windows 8, and I keep getting a message after the "Prerequisites" stage, stating
"The folloing component faild to install:
X Setup Runtime Files"

So I can't then proceed to the actual VFP install without the pre-reqs. I tried running as administrator, and also right click on Setup and used the "Troubleshoot Compatibility" option, and it still failed. Has anyone been able to install VFP9 under Win8 64 bit?
Thanks.

Best Regards,

Sorry I can't help with your specific problem, Scott. But to answer your question: Has anyone been able to install VFP9 under Win8 64 bit? The answer is Yes. I have done that without any difficulty (that I was aware of).

I hope someone else can help you in this case.

Mike

I actually don't understand what you mean, the VFP Runtime Files have no separate setup, so actually you may be trying to install SP2, You must install VFP9, then the Service Pack.

Bye, Olaf.

Olaf,
No, it's my VFP 9 install. When you first install it checks for "Prerequisites". For some reason, when it tries to install those files, it "fails". No other indication as to why. I guess others aren't having these problems...
I don't know what is happening with it.

I did update Windows7 to Windows8 and VFP9 was already installed before, but I can't imagine the setup will have any new problems.

Since about Vista you need to install MSXML3&4 in advance, because prerequisites detects newer versions, while VFP needs specifically version 3 for XMLTOCURSOR and version 4 for XMLAdapter. Preinstalling the Soap Toolkit does that, too.

Out of curiosity I did start the disc and it wan't to install/repair my VFP Runtimes, so yes, there is this step I didn't remember anymore. But do you already have a VFP application, perhaps, are the runtimes already installed? I don't see how this could be problematic, even in Windows 8, perhaps your disc has a defect. Did you try installing on another machine or in a virtual machine (with XP), just to see, whether it's the disc?

Bye, Olaf.

Olaf,
The disk is an Image, and I know it to be working. I'll try installing manually couple things and see if it works. Thanks for the ideas, will let you know what happens next.

Olaf,
Got it... thanks. I was installing from a directory off a network. When I instead opened the ISO to a virtual CD, and installed form that, it ran fine.
Cheers!
