Hello,

I have been asked to install service packs on a Microsoft SQL 2000 server. There have been no service packs installed on it since it was put into use, and I know Microsoft is out with SP3a. Is it a pretty easy and painless process to perform? I am assuming all I will need to do is backup the database, stop the SQL service, install the service packs and restart the service.............am I correct? If not, please let me know.

Thanks.

Don't even need to stop the services. The Patch takes care of that. Have upgraded over 200+ Servers w/ it, or SP3, in the last few months. BUT ... there is always a possibility things may go wrong. Good idea to back those DBs up before hand as you stated.

Thanks
