hello,
I'm trying to install SCO 5.0.5 on proliant 800. Got the smartstart 5.50 disk. Made the EFS floppies and loaded the EFS. That detected the NIC, but after rebooting, ping won't work. It says it detected cnet, ifconfig -a shows the ip address...but trying to ping other machines doesn't work..all packets lost. ANy ideas?

thanks,

Oskar

on boot up (/usr/adm/messages) does the cnet device show the MAC address of the NIC?
(look for "NOTICE: Station address is ")
try unplugging network cable. cnet should detect the link lost and/or link restored. If it does then look at arp -na to see if the machine can see any other devices out there.
here is an example of ifconfig -a of a working 800 w/ 5.0.5

net0: flags=4043<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 10.101.200.15 netmask ffff0000 broadcast 10.101.255.255
perf. params: recv size: 24576; send size: 24576; full-size frames: 1
