I have PageMaker 7.01 that was installed by our IT department. To use auxiliary Adobe software with PageMaker, I have heard the files need to be installed in a certain order. After searching Help files and FAQs I'm ready to ask this forum: What is the proper order of installtion for Adobe Tables, Adobe Distiller, and Adobe PostScript Drivers (to make PDFs), Adobe Reader, and PageMaker.

My situation right now is Adobe Tables do not work, and have never work properly. And, since Adobe Reader 6.0 was installed on my PC, I cannot create PDFs From PageMaker using a Generic PostScript Driver. The postscript file opens in Adobe Illustrator instead of Adobe Distiller.

If anyone cares to answer this question, please be kind. I will probably pass the information on to my IT expert.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, susolov,

If you're using WinXP, give up on Table Editor. It just doesn't work with WinXP.

I'd guess with a high degree of certainty that for some reason Illustrator is associated with the *.ps (or *.prn) filename extension.

You can change the file association yourself by loading up Windows Explorer and clicking Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types. then look for the PS file extension.

Alternatively, reinstalling Distiller should do it. See: (if my webpages are working - they weren't a few minutes ago) for full details.

Thanks BigJohnD. I'll have to try this a little later...but I'm sure it will work.

Hi there,

My postscript files were opening in Adobe Illustrator because *someone* evidently uninstalled Adobe Distiller. LOL!

I heard the saying today, "Ignorance is bliss"--Yeah until someone tells ya you're stupid!

Ah, well, let's hope *someone* can re-install it!

The details are at but sadly my server (Mersinet - which hosts Merseyside Police!) has been hijacked, hopefully only temporarily.
