Has anybody had any problems installing Oracle 8.1.7 on a Windows XP Pro PC?

I'm trying to install it locally on my machine but it does nothing.

I've had a look at the Task Manager and JREW runs for about 3 seconds then disappears!?

Thoughts or Workaround?

Cheers

You may be able to get it working but Oracle says;

There are three separate editions of Windows XP :

Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Professional Edition
Windows XP Professional Edition 64-Bit Edition

In the future Microsoft will be delivering server editions of Windows XP,
these will use the Windows .NET Server naming convention.

The following article describes the compatibility of the Oracle Database
server products with the Windows XP operating system. For information
relating to Windows 9.x refer to [NOTE:65995.1], Windows NT refer to
[NOTE:45997.1] and Windows 2000 refer to [NOTE:77627.1].

Oracle Server Product Support - 32Bit
=====================================

All editions of the Oracle9i database (Enterprise, Standard, Personal and
Client software) are supported with Windows XP Professional Edition, there
are no plans to support Windows XP Home Edition. Please note currently the
same CD is used for Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

+----------------+------------+-----+-------------------+-----------------+
| Client / RDBMS | Windows XP | Min | Error Correction | Desupport |

Min SP = Minimum Service Pack listed in the Oracle installation Guide.

Oracle does not plan to provide certification or support for Oracle8 or
Oracle8i on Windows XP.
