Good afternoon to all tek-tippers,

I just finished installing SQL 2005 and it seemed to install with no issues. When I open SQL and I try to log in it does not allow me to login to the local SQL server, I can log on to my other 2 SQL servers just fine.

It seems that it installed correctly but if I go to services, I do not find any of the SQL services.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Sounds like you didn't actually install the engine, just the client tools.

mr. denny, thanks for the reply. I work with ebouza70.

It seems like the only option is to install the client tools. I am attaching a screenshot of the options we see.

We downloaded sql 2005 enterprise from our volume license MS site.

We're installing it onto a server03 entrprise r2 with 2 gigs of ram and xeon processors.

Thanks.

Which file are you running to launch the installer?

we're running setup.exe found in the root of the files extracted from the 2 downloaded files.

We've installed sql before (not a frequent event) but we did it from the dvd which we cant find now >:[. It was a simple next-next-next with some things to fill in but this one is not like that at all....W-T-F!

2 files? You should be able to download the DVD. When you extracted the two files did you export them to a single folder or two folders?

mrdenny, we found out the problem over the weekend.

Just as you have mentioned, we needed to extract both files onto two different folders.

We were extracting the 1st zip and then extracting the 2nd zip onto the same folder thus overwriting all files. the 2nd zip were the client tools.

We extracted each onto it's own and run the setup independently. Now we have SQL server correctly installed as well as the client tools.

We thought that both downloads = 1 single folder install.

Thanks for the help!
