Hello,

We have a novell server 6 install in Miami and now we need to install a new server 6 on another city and make it part of the same tree. We have a partial T1 line (384 Megabytes)conection between both. While doing the installation on the second server, it seems like the server is trying to install the NDS from the server in miami. It has been displaying a message "Installing NDS" for the last 18 hours.I guess my question is if there is a better way to install a server across a WAN ??

Thanks

Frank

Hi,

Sounds to me as if you have a communication or timesync problem. This is what I would do.

1. Configure the server in Miami for NTP.

2. Install the new server into it's own Tree.

3. Configure the new server for NTP (same time source as the Miami server).

4. Once your certain that servers have the same time, (also make sure that NDS is healthy on both trees) remove NDS from the New server and insert the new server into the Miami tree.

5. Change the new server to a Secondary time server.

It sounds like Lou is exactly right.
