I'm not a Mac expert, as I just started working with them 18 months ago, when I started my job with a state agency. We have a database application running on Oracle Developer 2000 1.2.2 (yes, from 1996). This appliction was developed on OS 7.5.3, and works great on OS 8.6 . However, we received some outdated computer equipment from another state agency. Some of that equipment are iMac's and G4's that will only run OS 9 and above. We are having some critical bugs with Oracle on OS9, that we don't see getting resolved.
I'm wondering if there's some magical way (through firmware update, ROM file, etc) to get OS 8.6 to run on this newer equipment? We have another 12 - 18 months before this appliction is converted over to browser-based queries, and everyone can move over to a PC. We cannot purchase any more hardware, and must find a way to "limp along" until this happens. Can anyone give me some pointers or hack sites in order to accomplish this? Thanks!
