Hi,
I am trying to install windows XP pro on my PC and it keeps failing during the copying files section. The past two times it failed at 8%. When I say it fails it just freezes and doesn't seem to be doing anything else. I've tried using a different cdrom and they did the same thing. Thus I am thinking it might be my drive but I did a scandisk on it.

Any ideas / suggestions ?

Thanks
Jason

Is the drive brand new or a reformatted drive? More importantly have tried to wipe the drive clean with a tool such as Fdisk. Often times on revamped drives, there are traces of the old operating system left on there. This usually creates problems during installation of new systems. If it is a brand new drive, Fdisk probably wouldn't hurt to try anyway. Sometime a regular format won't wipe the drive and set all the bits back to "O". Worth a shot.

Computer Stops Responding After It Restarts During Windows XP Setup (Q307551)

Before you start the setup process, obtain and install the latest basic input output system (BIOS) upgrade for your computer from the computer manufacturer. If you update the BIOS after you upgrade the computer, you may have to reinstall Windows XP to take advantage of features such as Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) support in the BIOS. If possible, update the firmware in all devices before you start the upgrade. Remove any USB Devices prior to Setup. Turn off any Anti Virus in the Bios.

just for testing purposes try a blank hard drive or even new memory or one simm at a time. I've seen this happen as a result of bad memory or hard drive/cd drive problems.
