I dowloaded the install file from sun's site for version 1.4. I currently have version 1.3 installed on my machine. I would like to know and understand the best practices for upgrading my SDK.

1) Should I simply run the install file from sun?

2) Should I uninstall presious versions of my SDK?
-I am working on Windows-NT 4.0
-I have the following in my contol panel> Add/Remove Programs List

Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_01
Java 2 SDK Standard Edition v1.2.2
Java Plug-in 1.1.3

Thank You

Since 1.4 is still Beta, I would create a separate directory and install into it, leaving 1.3 alone. They won;t interfere with each other. I have 1.1.8, 1.2.2, 1.3 and 1.4 on my NT box.

The Sun install program defaults to a separate directory.

J2SE 1.4 is not in beta. It is in all of its fully released glory as of a couple of weeks ago. But you are right, it will create its own directory. No need to worry about uninstalling a previous version.
