I'm installing windows XP to a machine with and ECS k7s5a (AMI BIOS,01-12-02 release), an Athlon thunderbird and an IBM Deskstar HDD.

The problem is that during several attempts to install, I am notified that several fails fail to copy...they are sometimes different, but most commonly csseqchk.dll.

When restart after installation, sometimes it boots into windows without a problem, other times it stops in bootstrap and I get this error:

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

I've tried reformatting and reinstalling, but the same thing happens.

This is by my experience always memory trouble in install fase . Remember that all correct drivers is not in the system just yet .
Before install i recommend to turn all setting in bios to safe . Even lowering CPU and FSB speed , and memory timings .( ajust theese setting after install is complete and all relevant new drivers is installed)

Other things to consider besides RAM are a dirty or damaged CD, or a faulty Cd-ROM.

You can check your RAM out via these.

Remove any USB devices until after installation.

Turn off any Bios Virus Protection.

Also if you have some access to your new installation you could check the Setupact.log (and the other setup logs) in your Windows folder for any errors.
