Install HP 3745 printer

Hello:
Try to install HP 3745 USB printer. I download 3740_enu_win2k_sp.exe from HP.com. Click its icon to start installation. Installation says a 3740 printer has been installed, only option are "Uninstall" or "Quit". From Start-Printer and Fax, there is no printer installaed at all. Please advice, thanks in advance.

Well, this being the XP Pro forum, I suspect that your OS is XP rather than 2K, so the first thing you should do is download the XP driver, if you don't have it on a drive.

You can install the same printer twice, by the way.

Go to device manager and if the printer is available click on properties and update driver, choosing the downloaded xp file as a driver.

Alternately go to start-settings-printers and faxes and add new printer. Choose the manufacture of the printer and click on have disk. Select the folder in which you have placed the driver. It should work.
Alternate version of alternately: Let Windows try to find a suitable drive on driver update.

Remove printer from device manager, check in add remove software for any software referring to the printer. Remove that. Restart computer w/printer attached. Windows should discover it and find a driver in Windows Update.
