I dowloaded the Java Web Services Development Pack for Windows, jwsdp-1_0-ea1-win.exe. I attempted to install this and the install bailed out. The error message stated that I needed to have Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.3.1 installed on my machine.

I am pretty sure that I have this sdk installed on my machine. From a dos prompt, I can type "java -version" and I see that I have the following:

Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1)
Java HotSport(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1)

Can someone please help?

Ok - you may have put the j2se binaries and libraries on your machine from a direct file copy. In this case the java.exe will work ok but if you have not gone thru the actual java installer then your registry settings (I see you are on a Window OS) will not have been updated for your machine being installed with Java (look for JavaSoft keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE and HKEY_LOCAL_USER/SOFTWARE). In this case your machine will not 'look like' to the Web Services installer that Java is installed.

I recommend installing Java from the 'official Sun installer' first, and then installing your web services.

Note : Installing J2SE1.4.0 seems to give you the Web Services stuff.
