Hi All,

We had to install SuSe in text mode to load certain drivers so we could boot off our SAN. Now I wanted to know is there an easy way to just install the graphical mode now? Or does everything have to be installed one by one manually?

TIA!

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, as I don't use SUSE.

You did a text-mode install of SUSE to load certain drivers, that's a complete text-mode install? If so, you probably installed the SUSE GUI (it's KDE isn't it?) as well, ...

Or .. What comes up when you reboot?

Set in the inittab.

vi /etc/inittab

id:3:initdefault: <change the 3 to a 5>

Isn't that the way to do it?

If you didn't install any of the graphical login components, the easy way to get them installed, and install their dependencies, is use YaST (SuSE).

Login as root and run 'yast'. Select Software->Software Management. Select 'Filter' and then choose 'Selections'. From here you would select 'Graphical Base System', and at least one of 'KDE Desktop Environment' or 'GNOME System'.

You would them choose 'Accept' and follow the instructions. Some things may get added to your selection to fulfill dependencies.
