Hello:

Try to install gcc (gcc-3.2.2-5.i386.rpm) on a Redhat Linux 9 host. During the installation, it asks for cpp-3.2.2-5. However, cpp-3.2.3-20 has been installed already. Can not remove the cpp-3.2.3-20 since some other programs require it.

Thanks in advance.

It's one of the things I don't like about LINUX. You might look into YUM but I think someone will be by shortly to tell you what you need to do.

The answer is "42"

Do you need gcc-3.2.2, or can you use gcc-3.2.3. That would be the compatible version for the cpp that you already have.

Alternatively, you can remove cpp-3.2.3 without regard for dependencies and hope that your other programs don't *really* need that specific version. I'd try the later version of gcc first, though.
