Hi All,

I'm pretty new to Solaris! I am trying to set up a jumpstart solution. This is in an early stage. My problem lies in trying to install over the network.

The current setup.
The Solaris 8 cd's have been successfully copied and shared. I believe tftp has been setup correctly.

There is an Ultra 10 sat at the OK prompt on the same sub-net which is one day going to be installed by typing "boot net".

On the boot server when i type

"./add_install_client -e 8:0:20:f8:a0:f5 yowks36 sun4u"

I get the following errors
Warning: no interface configured for address 192.192.25.9
cleaning up preexisting install client "yowks36"
removing yowks36 from bootparams
removing /tftpboot/inetboot.SUN4U.Solaris_8-1
updating /etc/bootparams
copying inetboot to /tftpboot

Please can anyone shed some light as to what has been configured incorrectly?

The errors i get after typing "boot net" from the ultra 10 are.

ok boot net
Boot device: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/network@1,1 File and args:
Network Link Setup Failed.
Please Check Cable and Try Again.

Thanks in advance for any help

Regards

James

just an idea: ensure the installclient and server are in the same subnet, if possible use x-cable (peer2peer)

to debug: connect U10, Installserver and a Diag-Host (another Sun?) to a HUB (not a switch!) and use snoop to watch what the U10 is doing, does it send RARP Broadcast, does Installserver send IPAdress and does the Client establish a TFTP Session?

Please follow EXACTLY the documentation at

This is the command that I use to add client. you need to define where the client is to get the files and sysidcfg info.

./add_install_client -c server:/path to jumpstart files -p server:/path to jumpstart files clientname systemarc

Put mac address and name of client in /etc/ethers file on server
Make an entry for client in /etc/hosts on server. give ip and name.

make sure you did a ./check under jumpstart directory inorder to set rules.

Also you want to use boot net - install for installation. Boot net will not do a install without interaction.

Keep the questions coming if needed.

Thanks

Chris A
