i am trying to install red hat linux 9.0 on a system but keep getting an error "you are trying to insall on a machine which isnt supported by this release of red hat linux"

the system is an old IBM with a AMD 350 chip. it has 128MB ram and a 8GB hard drive.
according to the specs i have read, the requirements are a 200 Mhz pentium class chip, 128MB ram and 650MB free space.

what am i doing wrong or what can i do to improve this machine to make it so i can install red hat 9.0

It may not be the processor, RAM, or HDD space. That machine is 4 or 5 years old, and as I recall, IBM was doing some squirrely stuff with their hardware at that time. It may be the motherboard itself is giving RH fits.

You might just buy a whole new cheapo machine. If you're in the contiguous U.S., you might look at one of those $200 systems from WalMart online. They comes with a Linux distribution already on them, so if you want to blow out the OS and install RedHat on one, I'd think you have a pretty good shot of doing it successfully.

F.Y.I.

I have a clone machine with some unknown mobo, a K62 350Mhz processor, 256 MB RAM, 4GB HDD for OS and swap, 2 x 20GB in RAID 0. Its running as my domain, file, web & db server. Just nice.

thanks for the info. found another computer i had lying around and not using. (p3 450) loaded linux red hat 9.0 on that smoothly.

thanks again
