Hi,
Our Sun guy has left the company and wee need to install a dds2 drive to recover some data.

Can anyone tell me how to install this?
We are running solaris 8 on a enterprise 220r

Many thanks in advance
Matt

Don't know the 220r, but generally it's a matter of shutting the server (shutdown -i0 -g0 -y), plugging in the hardware and rebooting from the OK prompt with a boot -r

The -r tells the system to look for newly installed devices and add them to the /dev directory (dev/rmt for tape devices). You should then be able to go into the /dev/rmt directory and do an ls -ltr to find the newest device in there (it will be at the bottom of your list). That is the name the system has assigned to the device (eg /dev/rmt/O and variations for no-rewind etc). Hope this helps.
