Hi
1) I have an UNIX box with HP Unix OS on it, now I want to format it and install a branch new SUN Unix OS on it. How can I do that? I did check the H/W of the box, and it is supported by SUN.

2) I also have another box, it is an old SUN Unix OS, I want to scrapt the whole thing and reinstall branch new, higher version of SUN OS, how can I do that?

Thanks

if they have cd-roms, stick the solaris 8 cd-rom in them, and boot to them (if bootable) if not, then it's harder ...

follow the prompts and do a full install if there is enough space on your disks ...

if you want to do a new install on the second system, tell it that you don't want to upgrade the previous system

Jon.

Thanks

It sounds pretty easy, but I have another question for the first one. Does it mean the previous OS still on the Hard disk? It can not be erased? or format just like DOS or Win?

Solaris will by default offer to destroy other operating systems as it's installing ...

if you have free space (not in slices) Solaris will try and leave the disk intact, but at the point of selecting drives to work with you can set up the partitions easily enough ... this will erase everything for you ...

it's a bit like format and fdisk in one (in comparison to DOS)

If you want it to destroy everything it will, if you don't it won't ... it's quite considerate :)
