Facts:
1) Operating System is Windows 2000SQL server, SP3
2) Backup software is ArcServe 2000, SP4, Build 1100
3) Hardware is Compaq DL380
4) Tape Backup is HP Shurstore DAT40

Problem:
After install, when I go into device management to erase tape, I can only see ATAPI, ATAPI and CPQCISSM as devices, no tape backup device. If I go to Device manager, I see the tape drive, but have error manager at bottom stating that "This is a shared device on a Distributed server and tape engine is unable to connect to Primary Server. Please make sure that tapeengine is running on the Primary server."

There is only one tape drive connected to the one server. The tapeengine IS running.

Question, Why can't I see the tape drive?

There are a couple of reasons why you would see that error.
1. Did you install the SAN option?
2. I would assume your drive is connected via SCSI, can you please confirm? (basically I need to make sure is NOT connected via fibre in any way)
cheers
