A couple of staff want to be able to check payments in an access programme. They don't need Accpac installed. I can't find how to just install the odbc drivers for this. I am at home now, and can't remember the accpac version, I know it is way old and uses pervasive.
I imagine all I need to do is to alter odbc.ini and copy a couple of dll's over.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Do Accpac have any objections to this sort of thing? I suppose I could install the entire Accpac programme and just not use it, but that seems pretty overblown and seems to cause endless grief, mostly to myself!

Install the Pervasive client, add the DSN's in Administrative Tools/Data Sources, then link in MSAccess.

I've only installed the full thing a couple of times and that involved everyone coming out of accpac and rebooting the server as it still thought people were connected. Which made me unpopular. Does installing the client go through the same palaver?

The Pervasive client requires no reboot of anything.

Worked fine for 2 out of 3. On the third I can't create the dsn, I get 'Unable to retrieve remote engine dsn's. Error loading component'.
Not a very helpful error message. I didn't realise that this pc had accpac installed already, so that may have made some difference. Although I did exactly the same on my computer to make sure it wouldwork and it was fine..

1. OS of PC?
2. Pervasive version?
3. Pervasive Workgroup or Client/server?
4. Windows firewall turned on?

I ran the Pervasive control centre on the pc that doesn't work. All it had for Engines was Kim_new, Kim being the pc. So I added sql2k which is where the data lives and added an odbc from the pcc which seems to work fine, test is ok, get dsn list is ok.
When I try to use it in Access, or look at odbc setup from control panel, it doesn't work.
I'll give it a reboot at lunchtime.

rebooted, still the same. From PCC odbc claims to test out fine, from Control Panel I get
Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 1114 (Pervasive ODBC Client Interface ). (#160)

Apparently often due to the path being wrong, checked ok.

The bottom line is that the Pervasive client isn't correct on that PC. Uninstall/Reinstall it, and make sure there are no other Pevasive DLL's in the path.
