Hey guys if a slave drive is ide from an 6-yo computer can you install it in a new computer if its SATA will xp know its there? are do both computers have to be ide harddrives? are do both computers have to be SATA harddrives? thanks mike...

If the Motherboard has an IDE connector, then it should work.

what ever IDE connector you put it on, make sure you set the Slave/Master depending on if you have something else on the already like a CD drive.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Also might be worth checking the BOOT SEQUENCE in case it's set to boot from IDE before SATA. You'd then have the scenario where the machine was trying to boot from the slave IDE which might be undesirable...
