I was trying to install 7.6 client locally on a NT terminal Server and got error message saying that "Can not intall client part to the Terminal Server, you have to install the server part to the Terminal server". Since there is already a server configued as a Norton Antivirus server in our company, I only want this terminal server be set up as a local system which could be seen thru the Norton Antivirus server. Does anyone have an idea how to do?

Thanks a lot.

HI.

You can install it as an additional server in the group, which will manage only itself (it won't serve clients unless you configure clients that way).

I don't see any problem with that.

And no, I don't know how to force a client install, but I guess that the NAVCE manuals have detailed instructions.

I'm sure I read somewhere that 7.6 insists on you loading server rather than client on Terminal Servers and your "error" message seems to back that up. When you say you already have a server configured as a Norton AntiVirus Server, do you mean it's running Symantec System Center? If so, you should rollout the NAVCE server software from it, rather than locally. Then as Yizhar says, that server can be your Primary NAVCE server in the group and the terminal server can be a secondary with no clients off it.

Personally, I prefer to have the primary navce server on a Windows/NT workstation rather than a server, my file/print servers are busy enough as it is.

Smile anyway,
Perry.

Now, I am really confused. Yes, I do have a computer configured as Norton AntiVirus Server running Symantec System Center. So, what do I do with the Terminal server? I want Symantec System Center to be able to see the terminal server. Without loading the program on the terminal server, I don't know what to do. Can you give me some instructions step by step. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There are step by step instructions starting on page 115 of the Implementation guide. You want the 2nd option of step number 1. As you won't be using the Terminal Server as a primary navce server there's no point in selecting AMS2 in step 4. If the only navce server you currently have is the one with SSC on it (i.e. everything else has client installed) then step 15 should default to the appropriate server group name that you want to install this server in as a secondary, the current one already being a primary.

The instructions in the guide are more long-winded then the process itself really is. Good luck.

Smile anyway,
Perry.
