hi everyone, I am trying to install Win2k in addition to XP home that came with my new comp in order to learn ASP on it pws, but cannot. I get a message:

"This CD-ROM is form of older version of Windows than the one you are presently using. Setup functionality from this disk will be disabled."

Any idea how to bypass it and install Win2k?

Thanks again, Ilan.

Hi,

If you wanted a dual boot system, you will firstly need to create the new partition (do NOT make it active). You can do this via the control panel->admin tools->computer management.

Then, reboot the computer, change BIOS so that it boots from your Windows 2000 CD (if your cd is not bootable, create the boot disks and change BIOS to boot from floppy). The Windows 2000 install should then begin.

I have not tested this, so I cant tell you how well a dual booting 2000/XP will work when installed in this order. You may find that you need to modify your boot.ini on the active partition, but hopefully someone else will advise you on this.

Good luck,

James.

Thanks for your help, I finally did it using bootitNG. Ilan.

Dual boot systems are ALWAYS supposed to have the older version of Windows installed first.

Glad you found a solution using a 3rd-party product. Hopefully it will prove stable.

Curiosity question:

Why did you want an XP/2000 dual-boot configuration? The only reason I can think of is testing software on both OSs.

But they are so alike in most ways I can't think of a reason from a user perspective.

Hi,
I too hope it will be stable. So far so good. From time to time, probably, once a week the 3rd party software freezes and I need to reboot the system. Beside this, no complains.

Now, I have WinXP that don't support PWS or IIS, and I need to learn ASP. So this is the reason for this dualboot.
And thanks for asking.

By the way, if you have some knowledge of IIS, let me refer you to another thread of mine thread333-194425. I'll be grateful to get help on this.

Thanks, Ilan.
