Instal Excel 5.0 wants share.exe

I am trying to install Excel 5.0 from floppy disks onto an old pc running Win 98 (no CD drive) but it gets part way through the first disk and comes back with an error message telling me can't find share.exe

I assumed this was in Win 98 somewhere so I cranked up another old machine but it doesn't have share.exe anywhere.

Is there a workaround for this? Can anyone remember that far back?

It is only installed if you install a network.

You could try creating a dummy file like

echo. > share.exe

and see what happens.
