I'm working on an Inspiron 9200, during the booting sequence, the clock freezes up and there is no harddrive activivity for approx. 3 minutes. Then all of a sudden the harddrive startsup and all the proper icon appear. It seems like the computer is searching for some hardware of something. In safe mode this does not happen. I used code stuff starter to min what boots up but the problem is still there.

Thank you.

As Linney would say: Is there something in Event viewer that may be relevant?

Look in device manager and see if there is nay hardware with a red exclamation mark or a yellow question mark on it. That signals Windows had a problem with it. Which may account for the delay.

you said you minimized what loads but maybe going into msconfig and taking a look there may tell you something.

Can you try to get Taskmanager up when it freezes and see if there is anything taking up all CPU cycles?

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Are you running McAfee or Norton products, or other heavy hitters at Startup?

Be aware that drivers which normally load in Normal Mode do not load in Safe Mode, so if looking at MsConfig doesn't solve the issue, see what drivers you have loaded.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

In Normal Mode, is it still slow if you temporarily disable (not uninstall) Network Adapters?

Notice, I didn't even mention the Event Viewer.
