I have just installed Compaq Insight Manager 7 on a server. I want to remotely manage another DL380 G2 server.

But within insight manager it appears as an "Other Device".

I have SNMP installed but no Compaq Agents. Im not sure if the server requires an onboard Management card? or is just missing the management software?

Look forward to any replies.

Thanx in advance.
Vinay

You would definitely need insight agents installed on the target server you want to monitor/manage. SNMP will only get you to discover the device and monitor it but you can't monitor the system health(Disk, CPU, NIC Controllers ETC).
If you want remote control when the server is down get a Remote insight lights out board from HP.
You can download management agents for your server/os and install them during a maintenance window.

Hope this helps

Dear Vinay,

There are two things:
1> If u want to manage that server remotely (Just like PC Anywhere) then u need a Remote Insight Board.

2> But If u want to monitor the health of that server, then u need to install all compaq server agents on to that server.

SNMP is required to monitor the server.
