I want to insert pictures based on the content of my detail field - if the item changes I want the correct picture to be displayed. I want to do it like an if then else statement but I cannot find anything.

What version of Crystal?

Sorry,

Crystal XI or 2008 will allow you to create a formula with a file name and path where the picture is located, and the picture is displayed.

Prior versions of Crystal require that the picture itself be in the database as a blob field.

What type of database are you using? I believe Oracle 8i handles blob fields. As DGILLZ said, the image must exist on your database.

How do I do what?

Just add all of the possible images overlaying each other and conditionally suppress the images not required based on your requirements.

CR8.5 / CRXI - Discovering the impossible

My cViewIMAGE utility lets you use dynamic images in any version since CR 8.5. You can download a trial version from my web site.

There is a FAQ here on Tek-Tips about dynamic images and a long article in our Crystal Clear newsletter talking about the various ways of doing this.

dgillz: I was asking about how you display different pictures in CR XI ("Crystal XI or 2008 will allow you to create a formula with a file name and path where the picture is located, and the picture is displayed"). However, I now realize what you were saying; just create a formula that references the drive location of the image. I'm with you now. :)

Cr85User: That becomes very time consuming when you have anything over 5 or 10 images. Imagine having 500 images to set up that way.

Chelsea Tech: Where's the next issue?!? :)
