Inserting pictures in XML documents

Hi,

I have an XML schema in which I want one of the elements to contain a photograph rather than any textual data. How do I do this? I have read about "unparsed entity references" however as far as I'm aware these are only applied in Document Type Definitions as opposed to schemas?
