Inserting Page isn't Applying Master Correctly 1

Hi,

New Indesign user here.

I've got a document with spreads. The spread master has different margins for the left/right sides.

All is well until I try to insert a new page from a single-page master. So I want to insert a page before my page 4-5 spread. After the insert, I want
1. My new page to be page 4 of the spread
2. The old page 4 to be page 5 of the spread
3. The old page 5 to be page 6 of the next spread, etc.

The problem: the masters are not being applied correctly. All the pages are in the right position, but the old page 4 is retaining the left-side formatting when it moves over into the right page 5 position. I need it to switch to the right page formatting.

Shouldn't this happen automatically? What am I doing wrong? (I'm just dragging the single-page master in front of page 4). I also tried making the single-page master into a spread master right it's right page being the same as the right page of my normal spread master. No difference.

Clearer than mud, I hope.

Thanks.

You're repaginating whereby a page that had a left OUTSIDE margin of, say .5 in and a right INSIDE margin of .7 in, is now on the other side of the spread so the inside and outside are now messed up. Once master is applied to a page, it must be overridden or detached in the pages pallette

This will effect all subsequent pages - continually screwing things up until you're finished inserting pages between previously created ones.

It's probably easiest to make a Left Master and Right Master and apply accordingly - after you're done inserting. If you want, you can use the Apply master to pages command in the Pages pallette and type in the page numbers - 2,4,6 etc and 3,5,7 etc.

What was I thinking here? I must have been sleepwalking.

You really should not be using a Master for this - margins.

Just set the margins in the Layout menu. As you add pages everything will self adjust.

Use the Master for repeating elements and not margins.

Ahhhhh....

Didn't realize you could set an inside/outside margin that way. Hmm. I'll remember that for next time.

Thanks!!
