i'm having trouble inserting the full html code into mysql (type being a text field)...

below i've pasted 3 blocks of source code...

1) first block of code is the original source

2) second block of code is my conversion using... htmlentities(mysql_real_escape_string($content));
as you can see the full code has been converted

3) third block of code is the converted code inserted into mysql, and as you can see the full block of code hasn't been inserted.

surely it can't be that mysql cannot insert the full code... i'm really confused as to why it stops halfway?

Code:

<h4>About this calendar</h4>
<p>At least 25,000 people per month read this page, so it's the place to be if you're having a graffiti-related show or a show with graffiti artists in it.

 <br><b>Your Show</b>: Send ready-to-post <b>plain text in email</b> to <a href="mailto:info@graffiti.org">info@graffiti.org</a> and if it isn't obvious, explain why it's a graffiti-related event. Send the flyer later when it is done.
 <br>
 <b>Think globally</b>: Remember to <b>include the name of your city, state, and country</b>.
 <br>
 <b>Strategy</b>: <b>Increase attendance</b> and <b>limit local competition</b> by making early announcements. <b>Last-minute posts might not be published</b>.
 <br>
 <b>Artists</b>: Shows succeed when people show up!
 Just <b>send us the location and the dates as soon as you schedule a show</b>. Anyone can send in an event tip.
 <br>
 <b>Undated</b>: Recurring events, calls for participation, new publications and products move to the <a href="ongoing.html">Ongoing</a> events page after a few weeks.
<br>
 <b>Updated</b>: About <b>once a week or so</b>.
</p>

<p>Looking for more toys and books? See below, then go to the <a

<h3>Exposition
</h3>
<a href="2008art_curial_bureau.jpg"><img src="2008art_curial_bureaux.jpg" alt="" width="166" height="150" border="0">
</a>

</p>

<b>Nasty,
Snake,Yaze, Alexöne, Babou, Misterchat, Vuille, L’Atlas, Space Invader</b>…
investiront les murs de l’Hôtel Dassault pour la seconde fois cette année.
Gageons que le graffiti remportera un nouveau succès pour le plus grand
plaisir des inconditionnels du Street Art.</p>

<p>About the Living Word Festival<br>
The Living Word Festival is an annual community gathering of artists, educators, presenters and performers focusing on literary performance and literacy education. Founded by Youth Speaks and the Living Word Project, under the direction of Marc Bamuthi Joseph, the Living Word Festival is committed to exploring new modes of literary performance, and to engaging and supporting artists who are breaking the boundaries of hip-hop theater and spoken word theater.</p>

<p>About Samurai Graphix<br>
Samurai Graphix is a custom screen print shop in San Leandro, CA run by Estria. Estria began spray painting in Hawai'i in 1984 and has since painted hundreds of murals. As an influential leader of San Francisco's "Golden Age" of graffiti (1980´s), he pioneered painting techniques of characters and scenes. He is one of the originators of the stencil tip, used by graffiti writers to create thin airbrush-like lines. Estria co-founded Visual Element, the EastSide Arts Alliance´s free mural workshop that develops youth into the voice of the people.estria</p>

<p>Second Annual Exhibit Features 60 Avant-Garde Urban Contemporary
Female Artists</p>

<p>Queens, NY (September 2008)— We are excited to announce the
second annual YOUNITY art exhibition entitled Heart & Soul opening
on October 17th, 2008 at Alphabeta in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. As a
celebratory theme between 60 international women artists and what they
identify as "heart and soul," the exhibit promises an urban landscape
installation piece that unifies and pushes the boundaries of graffiti,
photography, urban contemporary art and fine art. In addition, YOUNITY
will release Heart and Soul, a book featuring works from all 60 artists
including: Lady Pink, Martha Cooper and Swoon. With so very few art
books that explicitly showcase women's urban contemporary art, Heart and
Soul will debut as much needed authentic niche material for the
ever-expanding art industry. Artists Alice Mizrachi and TOOFLY, founders
of YOUNITY, look to unify and empower established and young artists
through expressive art.</p>

<p>The exhibition will showcase original artwork by current YOUNITY
members as part of an indoor/outdoor site specific installation that
pays homage to the urban landscape. Members include world-renowned
artists: MAD C (Germany), Aiko Nakagawa (Japan), Faith47 (South Africa),
Krista Franklin (Chicago), and Diana McClure (NYC), to name a few. Only
60 out of 300 female urban artists were selected to participate in this
special exhibit. Works will range from hand-styles and graphics to
collage and abstract riffs---all expressing ideas on female identity,
the urban habitat, life and love.</p>

<p>The exhibit will also launch the Heart and Soul book, comprised of 60
artworks formatted for a 5x8 inch postcard-style flipbook. It is the
first publication in the YOUNITY collector's book series that will
showcase the work of current YOUNITY members. The Heart and Soul book
will retail for $19.50 and will be sold at targeted, limited locations.
Premiere copies will be available at the YOUNITY Heart & Soul event.
Overall, only 120 books in this special series will be available.</p>

<p>YOUNITY is the first ever international women's urban contemporary
art collective that brings female artists into a global networking
system as a means to create art exhibitions, installations, books and a
much needed archive of women's urban contemporary art. With the success
of their premiere exhibit, The C R O S S O V E R, YOUNITY has become a
sought after collective devoted to women with an inherent need to
perfect their craft through self-expression, surpass male dominance and
pass the torch on to younger female artists. For this project, only 60
out of 300 female urban artists were selected to participate with styles
that range from hand-styles, graphics and collage to abstract riffs on
the female identity, the urban habitat, life and love. </p>

<p>YOUNITY is in need of continued support to foster its self-publishing endeavors and independent growth.
Any and all donations to the collective can be directed to:

<p>Opening reception, October 11th, 2008 from 7-11 pm. The show runs
through November 1st premiering a solo exhibition of 60 plus works.</p>

<p>Recently retired from tattooing to focus on his fine art career,
Giant also promotes his clothing line REBEL8, which he began here in San
Francisco with partner Joshy D in 2003. Giant claims that although
"it's been great to focus on drawings more than tattoos, admittedly [he]
still enjoys working in skin on occasion." Like his art, the line
highlights his trademark skulls, icons, and tattooed girls.</p>

<p>There is no denying Giant’s high skill level in creating the seamless
images crafted by his Sharpie. Focusing now on his drawings, Giant has
been able to add written comments and anecdotes to his illustrations
welcoming viewers into his mind. His signature style harks back to old
school print techniques that required defined line work and a steady
hand, which Giant perfected through his studies of Architecture and
Graphic Design. A stint in Amsterdam also influenced and added to
Giant’s collection of works where he kicked back on his rented
houseboat. Ultimately, it is Giant’s respect for a traditional
technique; versus creating computer-generated images, and his attention
to detail that warrant him a master at his craft.</p>

<p>Romon Kimin Yang aka Rostarr, was born in South Korea but has lived in NY since 1989. He has been a key figure in the city's underground art scene and has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Asia and Europe.</p>

<p>His free-formed work comes across as a universe of abstract and geometrical shapes from which symbolic and iconographic elements emerge in elegant and incisive gestural strokes. His work is defined by an expression he calls 'Graphysics', meaning the fusion of graphic art and design and the physical laws governing the movement of energy. His work extends into the mediums of painting, digital media, sculpture, textile and public art projects with the Barnstormers collective.</p>

<p>Yang graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1993. In 2000, he was featured as one of I.D. magazine's "I.D. 40 under 30". In 2004, he was recognized as an honoree at the A.I.C.P. show held yearly at the New York Museum of Modern Art and his work has been reviewed by Art Forum, Modern Painters, The New York Times and Artnet.com among other prominent publications.</p>

<h3>"Fanatic - A Group show of Excessive Enthusiasm"</h3>

  BLVD is proud to present "Fanatic" a group show that explores the
  enthusiasm expressed in "Fan" art. The artists participating in this
  show were given the task of creating art that is in tribute to
  something that they are truly a fan of. It did not matter whether it
  was related to entertainment, though much of it is, or cultural
  pursuits but had to be straight from the heart. BLVD Gallery is
  fanatic about the vibrant talent here in Seattle so most of the
  artists involved are from the area and are showing with us for the

<p>During the exhibition several photos will be exposed, together with art objects created by Asia, which represent the style and theme of the project also brought forward in the photos. The exposed photos will be available for sale after the exhibition.</p>

<p>The project is inspired on early pin up styles seen in the 50s and 60s, most notably represented by Bettie Page, mixed with an underground style from the world of graffiti. The images strive to bring the two worlds in harmony with one another.</p>

<p>The power of the images lies in joining the two different styles into one; letting the two worlds meet harmoniously. This is represented in the clothing, make-up style, attributes and environment.</p>

<p>The suit has been created especially for the photo-shoot. The fan, umbrella and the gloves have been painted by Asia with Montana paint. The different attributes represent the female artist where two worlds meet.</p>

<p>The photos were taken in a squat in Amsterdam Noord; a place that has been the home to many graffiti artists and a fitting environment to our theme.</p>

<p>a special exhibition of nine individuals</p>

<p>On October the 4th 2008, the members of the art collective Xstreets will
put Amsterdam in a creative daylight. Amsterdam will be surprised when
the streets are filled with unique works of art created by artists
worldwide.</p>

<p>From 15:30, the international road show UmbrellART will take place,
we'll walk through the centre of Amsterdam with forty hand designed
umbrellas made by artists such as <b>American graffiti king Zimad, street
philosopher Laser 3.14, clothing designer Merel Boers, Italian artist
Mr. Wany, Italian doll maker Maoma, cartoonist WZL and stencil artist
IVES.one</b>. Walk with us on this trip and bring the art back to the street
where it is accessible by everyone. The road show begins at 15:30 on the
Nieuwmarkt and ends at 18:00 in the CHIELLERIE on the Raamgracht 58.</p>

<p>At 18:30, the first edition of "X Marks The Spot" will be spectacularly
opened by a inspiring fashion show by ILL_Design from Basel,
Swizterland. The work shown in the gallery by the members of Xstreets
Collective is not only original but also very contemporary. The gallery
show has a unique sponsorship. European umbrella distributor Impliva
will, with the support of a (professional) jury choose the artist with
the most beautiful umbrella and award it with a one-of-a-kind production
of his or her design.</p>

<p>The day ends with an official after party at the OT301 on the Overtoom.
From 21:00 until 03:00 you can get your groove on with the musical
support of Die Schallplattenpolizei, Dj 4Way, Dj Koldun (Funky Junkie),

Plastics will be throwing down on both coasts with two release
parties next month. Suru will drop Killa Instinct first in LA on
Saturday, October 4th followed a week later by myplasticheartnyc in
NYC on October 11th.</p>

<p>Marka and Bic Plastics have raised the bar with Killa Instinct.
Transformed by toxic spray paint fumes, this mutated graff writer is
ready for action with tools of the trade – a bad-ass removable gas
mask, spray can, marker, bolt cutters, finger rings, and more.</p>

<p>Graff is part of Killa Instinct's being. So much so that he's got a
spray can erupting out of his back. Don't you dare call him a hunch
back though. The spray can which fuels his exploits directly through
his gas mask also doubles as a secret stash with a removable top –
for markers, an old school King or whatever else you want.</p>

<p>This original colorway of Killa Instinct stands roughly 8" tall, is
limited to 300 pieces and will retail for $95. Check out great pics
of the finished figure and packaging after the jump. We're pumped for
this release, are you ?</p>

<h3>GRILLED – A Dizzy Collage of Exhibition Street Art & Hip-Hop Art
</h3>

<p>Percolator Gallery   -   134 Latrobe Tce, Paddington</p>
<p> <a href="[URL unfurl="true"]http://brisbane.citysearch.com.au/arts/1137589863596/Percolator+Gallery">map</a></p>[/URL]

<p>Grilled will run at the Percolator Gallery for one exclusive week commencing with an Opening Reception on 25th September. The gallery will come alive with 1988 originators art, the music, the images and the stance that are stronger than ever. This exhibition will celebrate the work of these artists from Expo '88 with their new style in 2008. Grilled will feature the works of 'old school' break-dancing brothers, Bill and James Moulton (who are the publishers of HYPE magazine - a globally distributed, colour lifestyle magazine based on Hip Hop subculture). In addition, Grilled will collectively present master pieces by Jason Heidke, Shannon Lawless, 'Mickey' Newman and Ron Hillier (MC CLINIC). </p>

<p>These artists are from Eagleby, the Southside district of Beenleigh, which has now become part of Logan City Council area. Growing up in this working-class suburb with countless blocks of public housing, they are only too aware of the injustices that the poorer people of Australia must face. This experience has influenced their conscious approach to both their Art and their politically-focused Music. They are the artists who have subverted public art spaces and originated the Highway murals colouring the sound-walls across south east Queensland. Everyone knows their work - from the Children's faces at Tugun, the Koalas at Daisy Hill to the funky Metro Jazz Musicians at the Juliette Street exit of the M1.</p>

looks like my my 2nd and 3rd code examples didn't insert correctly here either??

just ran a test and here's what i get....

original code is a total of 2187 lines

// inserts 89 lines
$content_x = htmlentities($content);

// inserts 1566 lines
$content_x = mysql_real_escape_string ($content);

// inserts 1234 lines
$content_x = htmlentities(mysql_real_escape_string($content));

you cannot expect us to parse this amount of code.

basic rule however: do not store stuff in mysql with htmlentities. just store it as basic escaped string.

make sure that your column is big enough to take the input.

in the OUTPUT consider whether you want the html displayed as html or as it should be displayed. this will be the deciding factor as to whether you want to use htmlentities()...

hey jpadie...

sorry about the large amount of code... i realized it was tool long but tek-tips doesnt allow you to edit your post?

ok, i think i've figured it out... had the field set as 'text' so i'd changed it to 'longtext' and seems so far so good on a test run... just need to test a few more pages to see if that was it
