INSERTING A TICK IN A CELL 2

I have a frequesnt requirement to place a tick in certain cells of my spreadsheet.

I have tried a macro that retrieves the tick from wingdings character map and it works fine until I close the sheet down and reopen. It then has a problem of pasting the tick.

Is there a simpler way of achieving this?

if u set the column in excel to windings 2 and put in a P (that is a capital P) it is a tick

btw a cross (x) in windings 2 is Capital O
