Inserting a subreport into another report...

Here is the situation I am hoping to find answer to.

I'm using Crystal Reports.Net and I have a report that works great until I insert a subreport. I have tried inserting an existing report as a subreport and I have tried creating a subreport from scratch, neither of which will work in my report. How do correctly insert a subreport into another report so that the application that I am using to create the reports does not blowupxuate?
