I want to enable a user to download a .reg file from a web page and seamlessley insert it into the registry using VB script. Any ideas?

IE security settings would prevent something like this from happening and with good reason.

The way to go about this within your intranet is to create your script and put it inside an HTA file. You can then have a link to the HTA in a web page on your intranet and have the users click the link and choose to open it.

I hope you find this post helpful.

As markdmac said, HTA is the way to go but note that even an HTA file will cause ActiveX script warnings that the user will have to click through and approve the running of the application. If it is a company intranet you could write a registered ActiveX control that would be a trusted component and run without warnings.

Another option would be to have the file stored on a network share and sending people a shortcut to the file. Clicking the shortcut will run the app as if were a local resource and not cause warning messages.
If they file has to be delivered through the web browser then you have to deal with ActiveX security warnings.

At my age I still learn something new every day, but I forget two others.

Tell us more about your need/application and perhaps we can suggest a better solution.

I hope you find this post helpful.
